Obesity is an increasing problems causing more death related to coronary problems and diabetes. Traditional and new use of anti-psychotics can cause more patients to get obesity (about 1/3 of all). Electroacupuncture is an effective way to treat this condition.

Subject: Therapeutic effect of electroacupuncture on obesity induced by antipsychotics Abstract Objective: To find out an effective therapy for obesity induced by antipsychotic drugs Methods: 101 cases of obesity treated with antipsychotic drugs were randomly selected and divided into observation group and control group. The observation group were treated with electroacupuncture  at LI11 (Quchi), St36(zusanli), St40(Fenglong), St37(Shangjuxu), St39(Xiajuxu) once a day for 8 weeks. No treatment was given to the control group. BPRS (Brief Psychiatry Rating Scale) was used for assessment and TESS (Treatment Emergent Symptom Scale) was used for assessment of side effect. Results: The observation group (54.90%) is better than the control group (10.0%) with significant difference between two groups (p<0.05). The BPRS score reducing rate was 24.92% and 28.62% in both groups respectively and no side effect was observed. Conclusion: Electroacupuncture has good therapeutic effects on antipsychotic drug induced obesity
