Observation of Acupuncture and drug for Depression        <<Chinese Acupuncture and Moxibustion>>, January, 2005 Edition

Abstract Objective: To assess clinical therapeutic effect and safety using acupuncture combined with Fuxiting on depression

Methods: 53 cases of depression were divided into an observation group (n=30) treated by acupuncture and fuxiting and a control group treated by Fuxiting. Their clinical therapeutic effects were assessed by HAMD, HAMA and CGI, side effects by TESS.

Results: After 6 weeks of treatment, the observation group has 80% effective rate and the control group has 69.6% effective rate with no significant difference between two groups (P>0.05). There were significant in the scores of HAMD and HAMA before and after treatment in the two groups, (P<0.01). The side effect in the observation group is less than the control group.

Conclusion: Acupuncture combined with Fuxiting has god therapeutic effect on depression with less and mild side effect
